(ThIsIs) ReDeYe - Biography

Guillaume began his musical career in 2001 as co–singer-songwriter of the French pop/rock band Dahlia, signed to Wagram Music. Between 1999 and 2011, he co-wrote three albums with Armel Talarmain. The band won the Découvertes du Printemps de Bourges in 2001, was selected by FAIR in 2003, and toured extensively across more than ten countries, including Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Syria, and several African nations. Dahlia performed at major festivals such as Eurockéennes de Belfort, Printemps de Bourges, Transmusicales, and Papillons de Nuit, gaining national media exposure (M6, RTL2, Télérama, Taratata).

In 2006, Guillaume launched his personal project (ThisIs) ReDeYe (also known as Redeye), initially as a side project before becoming his main artistic focus. Conceived as a sonic diary, ReDeYe explores an organic and evolving musical landscape, ranging from stripped-down acoustic folk to full-band psychedelic rock, shaped by travel, nature, and open spaces.

From 2014 to 2018, Guillaume lived in Austin, Texas, immersing himself in psych-americana influences soaked in reverbs, delays, and echoes. This period deeply informed his sound, which continues to draw inspiration from wide landscapes and desert imagery, particularly West Texas. Since 2017, he has also been developing a series of imaginary soundtracks inspired by nature-writing literature, titled Map to a Soundtrack.

“(ThisIs) Redeye is dreamy Americana, refined folk, a silky voice drenched in cognac—the kind of road music that makes you want to stop the car and wander. Celestial cowboy, melancholic yet grounded, his music opens the door to fantasy-like musical migrations.”
— Aurélie Sfez, France Inter / Radio Nova

Since 2006, fifteen music videos have been produced for ReDeYe, along with two documentaries: one following the recording of the Be The One EP and another chronicling a U.S. tour (Safe Again – Behind the Scenes, 2012). Several songs have been licensed to U.S. television series including The Blacklist, The Unicorn, and Chicago Med, as well as French advertising campaigns (notably Nouvelles Frontières, 2009).

As a solo artist or with his band, (ThisIs) ReDeYe has performed over 200 shows, including SXSW (Austin), El Cosmico (Marfa), and The Make-Out Room (San Francisco). In France, notable venues and festivals include Bars en Trans, Festival Silhouette, La Maroquinerie, Divan du Monde, L’Ubu, La Carène, and Les Passagers du Zinc. He has shared stages with artists such as Syd Matters, G. Love, Tue-Loup, Joseph d’Anvers, and Marie Flore.

Guillaume has also composed music for soundtracks, art exhibitions, and live art performances, including Hippodrone with visual artist Simon Guiochet.

Beyond music, Guillaume founded Waiting Room Designs & Prints in Austin in 2014, a screen-printing studio named after a Fugazi song. Centered around painting, collage, and drawing, the workshop serves as a creative laboratory for posters, zines, travel journals, artist books, and visual experiments linked to his musical universe.
